Whitechapel Mission

Always the homeless first

At St John’s we have been supporting the Whitechapel Mission for some years, by annual fundraising events and, most particularly, collecting clothes, bed linen, towels and toiletries for their clients, men and women of all ages, which have been kindly donated by the local community. Items can be left behind the two screens at the back of St John’s Church and through peoples’ generosity we are able to load up a full car every month to make the journey to their base in Whitechapel Road, London.

During the last year they served 113,515 breakfasts - an average of 311 per day, 365 days a year and provided 24,440 showers.  In total 6,941 people accessed their services so it's not surprising that the Mission always has a need for fresh supplies.   Clothing:  They always need clothing of all types, clean new or gently used for both men and women.  They have a particular need for underwear - vests and pants, jeans and shoes and with winter coming on need warm coats, jackets, gloves, hats and scarves.  Toiletries: They have a need for all types of toiletries in particular new razors, toothbrushes, deodorant, hand cream and shampoo.  Linen: Bath and hand towels, facecloths, sheets, blankets and sleeping bags.  Food: Non perishable, dry and canned - in particular they always have a need for baked beans - they can never get enough!
